100 Years ago today President Woodrow Wilson delivered a speech to the American people reflecting on the meaning of Armistice Day, which would later become Veteran's Day. He said:
“To us in America the reflections of Armistice Day will be filled with solemn pride in the heroism of those who died in the country's service, and with gratitude for the victory, both because of the thing from which it has freed us and because of the opportunity it has given America to show her sympathy with peace and justice in the councils of nations.’"
100 years later his words still ring true.
Today we recognize the sacrifices that our men and women in uniform and their families make every day in service to our country.
There are many families in our Kensington community and in the greater Washington area that currently serve in the armed forces or are veterans. We are grateful for your service.
For all of the Washingtonians and kids who have the day off today, enjoy.
