Need to get the kids out of the house? Here’s three ideas for free family fun this fall right in our neighborhood.
#1 Pumpkin Rock N’ Roll

On Saturday, October 26th, the GIGS Courtyard in Kensington, MD will be transformed into a full-blown Halloween extravaganza. Enjoy family-friendly attractions including live musical performances, food trucks, inflatable rides and slides, and a hay maze.
Don’t miss the main event: The Pumpkin Roll, a derby race of Halloween pumpkins-turned-boxcars. The Pumpkin Roll is a derby-style race in which participants compete in heats for the title of the fastest Pumpkin Racer. Hosted by Bright Light. Pink Dot Styles will be open for business so stop by and say hi!

#2 Halloween Family Storytime at Noyes Library

If you’ve got little ones, take them over to this sweet hidden gem for story time. These 25-30 minute themed programs are designed for babies and toddlers, preschoolers and kindergartners and elementary school kids. They offer diverse stories and activities that promote and develop language skills and imagination. These programs encourage children to develop a lifelong love of reading and learning, and introduce them to the culture of reading. No registration required.

#3 Family Fall Fest & Family Portrait Day at Tusculum Farm

Okay, so this isn’t technically in Kensington but if you’re willing to travel out to Gaithersburg this is sure to be a great family day From hayrides, to children’s activities and games, to food trucks and an art market from the local Countryside Artisans — there will be something for everyone at Tusculum Farm’s fall fest.
Tusculum Farm’s grounds will also be open for groups and photographers looking for fall portrait backdrops (hello, Christmas card!) — no reservations needed for this day only.
